James MacMillan is a Scottish composer whose work is performed extensively in Scotland and abroad.  This website is aimed at his fans in Scotland, who are keen to find out more about performances of his music and other activities in Scotland.

His music has significant Scottish connections and inspirations, and has been championed by all the major organisations here. His breakthrough pieces Tryst and The Confession of Isobel Gowdie were commissioned and premiered by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra respectively. His first major concerto, The Berserking, was commissioned by the RSNO for Peter Donohoe and the 1990 Musica Nova festival, where he was featured composer. His first major opera Ines de Castro was written for Scottish Opera and premiered at the Edinburgh Festival in 1996. That festival has featured his music over the last twenty years, including a major focus in 1993.
